43 Actions, a New GTD App for Your iPhone

43actions.jpgI just discovered another new GTD application for the iPhone, 43 Actions. For a web based application designed for a mobile device upon which nothing is supposed to be installed, this is a pretty robust little application.

It allows you to create projects, contexts and actions and to arrange actions as subsets of a project. Contexts are used to either allow you to organize data within the application ( as in putting things in your “in-box” which is one of your contexts) or organize projects and actions relative to each other - for example a context could be a goal that requires you to complete several projects each of which has multiple actions.

The application has an Agenda view that lets you see summary information for the current day, the following day, your week, your month and more. Further you can email this information to yourself to print it out if you like.

While the interface is fairly simple, it is very well designed from a mobile user’s perspective - I’ve looked at hundreds of mobile applications so I have a pretty good idea of what’s usable and what isn’t in a mobile program and this interface has been well thought out and cleanly executed. I addition, it appears to be completely free - at least I can’t see any place on the site that indicates that they expect me to compensate them for the application.

About the only thing that I can see as an immediate drawback to this application is the one problem common to all web apps; if you have no connectivity you’re dead in the water. Luckily, the places with no connections of any kind are dwindling by the day and it is my understanding that even a few airlines will be offering some kind of in-flight connectivity in the next year or two - probably only charging you your first born child but hey- watching time-shifted soap operas while flying over the midwest is IMPORTANT,
