Completing & remember 2010

Creating the new year

They will lead participants through a series of insightful questions that David Allen created to inspire, challenge and acknowledge.

This will be the last webinar for 2010, finishing up a banner year of webinars for our GTD Connect members. We did over 20 webinars this year, including 6 in our “Black Belt” series for more advanced GTDers, tactical webinars on tools such as Outlook and Lotus Notes, and hands-on “labs” with David helping people through the fundamentals of making decisions on their stuff. As a member, you can access all of these in the media library and even take them on the go to watch offline (downloads not available for guest pass members, sorry!).We have many new exciting webinars coming in 2011, including one on OmniFocus.

We wish you all the best.

We received this letter from Bruce, about his recent experience with GTD Connect:

I joined GTD Connect a week or two ago, and I’m discovering that it is an excellent resource. The amount of content is awesome, and you have developed an active community. (Initially I thought: $48/month is a lot of money. Now I realize it’s worth it.)

I read Getting Things Done about three years ago, and although much of it made sense, I missed a lot of it. I’m now reading Making It All Work, reading articles on GTD Connect, and listening to Connect webinars, and I’m developing a much deeper understanding of GTD and how to apply it.

Thanks!
Bruce

As many of you know, David Allen has used Lotus Notes for his personal GTD system for many years. As such, David and I will be co-hosting two upcoming webinars on GTD & Lotus Notes.

On April 8th from 10am – 11:30am PST, we’ll be doing a webinar exclusively for IBM employees on applying GTD to Lotus Notes. Many IBMers are fans of GTD already, and this will give more insight into David’s master tips, tricks & strategies. We’ll also look at eProductivity – the only software tool for Lotus Notes that’s earned the distinctive “GTD Enabled” certification.

If you’re an IBM employee, sign up now.

Open to the public;
David and I will be doing another webinar on GTD & Lotus Notes on April 28th that is open to the public. Sign-up now. Space is limited.

GTD Connect is a great way to get practical & tactical coaching advice on implementing GTD. Webinars are held about twice a month on a wide range of topics for GTD’ers. If you’re not a GTD Connect member, check out the free trial (which will also allow you to take a Webinar class during your trial membership.) If you decide to join beyond your trial, it’s only $48 a month and you can cancel anytime. The free trial is a great way to see if GTD Connect is for you. Trial members can access to the full site except for podcasts and downloads.

I’m a retired teacher who now has a tiny gem or a business called ‘Life in the Flow Lane.’ I read Getting Things Done a couple of years ago and implemented some things. I am a GTD Connect newbie. The Webinars are simply invaluable. You have given me a much greater understanding of the whole GTD process. For example, I really get that I need to have a list that attracts rather than repels me! It seems obvious, but you show how to make that happen. All the resources on Connect work well together. I think the mix you have put together is simply outstanding. – Sharry Teague

After working with the GTD system for quite awhile, I find tracking next actions in Outlook to be pretty easy. The harder part is tracking projects. Where do you do that and how do you move from the 10,000 level (projects) to the runway (actions)?

Coach Wayne Pepper replied:

I keep my Projects list in Outlook Tasks. I simply create a category in Tasks labeled “Projects”. Then, whenever I process a thought, an email, a piece of paper that has an outcome associated with it that will take more than one step to complete, I create a new Task and enter into the Subject field the name of the Outcome (for instance, “Tune Up Car”)and then I identify the very next action (call mechanic to find a good time), and I create another Task with that action in the Subject field. I would then categorize that next action as a call by selecting the “”@Calls” Category.

I then review my collection of Projects (my Projects List) once a week during Weekly Review, making sure the project is still relevant, making sure that I have appropriate Next Actions supporting it, and focusing on how much attention that Project has or has not been receiving as a way to assist my focus and intuitive choices for action into the following week.

If you are looking for more tips on using Outlook, Coach Kelly Forrister is doing a Webinar for GTD Connect members this Wednesday, July 22nd, on GTD & Outlook. Not a Connect member? Try the two-week free trial, which will also qualify you to attend the Webinar.
